The South African golfer is the highest ranked player in the field at the $2.5 million Indian Masters - the first ever European Tour event underway in India at the Delhi Golf Club.

In an interview with Divya Kalra at the Indian Masters, 38-year-old Els talks about his plans for 2008 as he wishes to catch Tiger Woods at the top of the official World Golf rankings.
What do you have to say about your performance here on a demanding course, the Delhi Golf Course?
Obviously on the first day, I was quite disappointed with a 75. I really worked my tail off just to try get under-par, some 2-under par now after three rounds. And I feel like I have really worked hard for that. So I get to feel kind of satisfied after my first day.
You had a refreshing Christmas break. Did it help to get back your focus on the game?
Absolutely. My first tournament last week, it was a really very good chance to win the tournament. It was with the world number one in the field and I didn't play great back nine and missed quite a few putts, so I was disappointed with that. But wasn't too bad a start.
You have a three-year plan to catch up Tiger at the top of the world golf rankings. Are you moving closer to your plan?
Well, I haven't lost too much ground, but I haven't gained. That is why I have changed my schedule this year to really concentrate on the Majors. I would love to win a Major this year. That's really any big leaps against a guy like him is to win Majors with him in the field.
What are the major areas in your playing style that need improvement?
I need to get my putting on a higher level. Me and my caddie are working on my putting this week. I need to get that on a higher level. And obviously the whole game will follow from there.
